Food Wise Conference 2017

On 4th December Tom Murphy (PAC) attended the Food Wise Conference 2017 (Challenge . Ambition . Opportunity) at Croke Park, Dublin,  to ensure a presence and visibility for agricultural contractors. Phil Hogan EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development gave the Keynote Address and issued a warning for Ireland to “wake up and wake up soon” to the reality that we are part of a European Union that has assumed the role of global leader in tackling climate change challenges, he warned “the day is gone when we can pay lip service to sustainability and climate action”.  Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed also addressed the audience of over 500 stakeholders representing all areas of agriculture. He underlined the collective determination of all in the sector to achieve the growth and sustainability ambitions contained in Food Wise 2025.  After speaking to Minister Creed (pictured above), Tom Murphy emphasised the significant role Agricultural Contractors can play in contributing to growth and sustainability. It is not financially viable for farmers to own large machinery and it is also detrimental to the environment.  Policy makers in both Europe and here in Ireland must recognise the importance of the agricultural contracting sector and take into consideration all they can bring to the table in every avenue of growth and sustainability.
