214 Farming Deaths – People not Statistics

In the years 2010-2019, there were two hundred and fourteen deaths in the farming sector (source HSA). These are not just statistics; each loss is a real person who is mourned and missed by their family and friends.  Incidents involving tractors, farm vehicles and machinery account for a significant percentage of deaths, so at this very busy time of year in the farming calendar we need to stay alert and be aware of the dangers.  Look out for people aged sixty five and over as they are particularly vulnerable as are children with 91 and 21 losses respectively in the period 2010-2019.
