51% of farm deaths involve vehicles and machinery

The Health and Safety Authority warn that 51% of all farm deaths over the past ten years involved Vehicles and Machinery. Being crushed, struck, pinned under or falling from vehicles are the main causes of deaths involving farm vehicles.
Being entangled in PTO’s, crushed under a machine part, caught in a machine mechanism, crushed between vehicles and struck by a machine part are the main causes of death with farm machinery.
Anyone can fall foul of injury or death but elderly farmers and children are at particular risk..
