Brexit – The Irish Perspective

Today Tom Murphy was there for agricultural contractors at the heart of European debate.  He attended “Brexit and Beyond: Perspectives on the future of agricultural policy and economic policy”.  Keynote speakers at this important meeting were EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Phil Hogan, Mairead McGuinness, Vice President of the European Parliament, along with leaders in the field of agricultural economics. This meeting formed part of the 91st Annual Conference of the Agricultural Economics Society and was supported by Teagasc, the Journal of Agricultural Economics and EuroChoices.
Tom reports “This meeting emphasised that ongoing discussion on the reform of CAP is intrinsically linked, not only with Brexit but also with the Environmental requirements of the EU. Ultimately this will have an effect on the monies available to farmers and that will have a knock on effect for agricultural contractors. Whilst networking with delegates from over twenty countries, Tom stressed that farmers should be guaranteed a fair price for their produce and this should be written into any legislation.  PAC – continuing to fight for agricultural contractors in Europe.
