E10 Bn for Innovation in Agriculture

Arriving straight from negotiations at the European Commission, a delighted Phil Hogan, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, announced to delegates that Ten Billion Euro had been agreed under Horizon Europe, to support research and innovation in food, agriculture, rural development and the bio-economy.  Tom Murphy, for PAC Ireland, attended this event by invitation, and as usual he was there to ensure that there was a voice and visibility for agricultural contractors, where it matters, at the heart of Europe.  Commissioner Hogan acknowledged the help and support of his Commission colleagues and in particular Carlos Moedas, EU Commissioner for Research and Innovation, Budget Commissioner Gunther Oettinger and of course EU President Juncker.  Recalling that it was the input and guidance of key stakeholders, over a number of years, that enabled the European Commission to publish their strategy to steer work across the two policies that serve agricultural research and innovation; the CAP and Horizon 2020, Commissioner Hogan said that continued investment in support of science, research and innovation will contribute to the development of a more productive and sustainable EU agriculture and food sector.
