Agricultural Land Drainage Theory & Design

PAC Ireland Chairman Michael Sheehan welcomes this Teagasc ConnectEd course, which is a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate, as a great opportunity for agricultural contractors to broaden the range of services they provide or indeed to upskill.  This course will equip contractors with the knowledge, skill and competence to advise farmers on agricultural land drainage system design for a range of soil types and conditions, in accordance with best practice.
The course will be run over 8 days  (4  x 2 days blocks) in Sept/Nov 2018 and will take place at various locations across Ireland, including Teagasc Moorepark and Grange Research Centre.
Participants will learn:-
How to classify soil types and their characteristics in relation to drainage capacity
Identify soil characteristics in the field by manually and visually assessing a range of different soil types and classify each type in terms of its drainage capacity
Identify a range of typical land drainage problems and poorly drained soil characteristics
Appraise different land types and recommend appropriate drainage system in terms of type and material specifications
