HSA Forestry Safety Seminar

Representing PAC Ireland, Tom Murphy attended the HSA Forestry Safety Seminar on 11th October, 2018 at Teagasc, Mellows Campus, Athenry Co. Galway.  Speaking after the event Tom complimented the organisers on an informative, interesting and diverse panel of speakers. Chaired by Pat Griffin, Senior Inspector with the HSA, the meeting started with a presentation from Gillian Clark, CEO of Forestry Industry Safety Accord (FISA UK), followed by John Kennedy (HSA) who is on the Forestry Working Group of the Farm Safety Partnership.  Delegates heard from Arthur Byrne (ESB) and Ann Cunningham from the Department of Agriculture.  The Health and Safety Authority also launched a new and impressive array of safety information leaflets and these can be viewed and downloaded by clicking HERE
Ken Farragher, Area Training Manager with the Galway-Roscommon Education and Training Board Development informed everyone about a new apprenticeship training programme for arborists, which is planned to start in 2019.  Kevin Collins (Coillte Forest) and Liam Kelly (Teagasc, Forest Development Officer) also made meaningful contributions to an important safety initiative for the Forestry Sector.
