Pesticide Regulations

Sustainable Use of Pesticides Regulations
This legislation has implications for agricultural contractors and farmers who wish to carry out spraying operations, whether using a knapsack or boom sprayer.  The term pesticide refers to a broad range of products used as plant protection products (PPP) and/or biocidal products.  Professional users are required to undertake training and once this is complete they must register with the Department of Agriculture.  The same is true for advisors, sellers and distributors of pesticides.  As professional users agricultural contractors must register by 26th November 2015.

There are also controls in place with relation to spraying equipment, which must undergo regular testing and certification.  All designated machinery must undergo it’s first test by 26th November 2016.

Contact the office for further information and for details of trainers and machinery inspectors.
